Her eyes were fixed on the target, yet her spirit was wavering. A cocktail of emotions flowed through her head as the time drew near, but standing above all others was fear. Her once steady hands trembled under the tremendous weight placed upon her. What she held in her hands was no weapon but rather a key that would open the path to her people's liberation. Her breath grew rapid and her chest tight. As she closed her eyes, a wave of calm passed through her body, but it was a mere droplet to the vast fires of dread that were burning insider her. Almost as if Lucifer was whispering in her ear, the thought of not following through briefly flashed in her mind. All such thoughts were washed away when a familiar voiced blared through her radio. It was the same voice that had guided and supported her so many times in the past. It was the voice of her lover, Sonic the Hedgehog. He had only four words to say: "Amy, take the shot."
That command echoed throughout the room, penetrating deep into Amy's soul. She knew she could not betray him, and she knew that this was the only way. Her finger slowly crept onto the cold, metal trigger. Amy knew that in a few seconds, a new era of history would begin, an era of seemingly endless conflict and suffering, but in the end, the light of a new dawn would cover the lands and seas and bring long-awaited peace back to the world. As much as Amy wanted to disagree, she knew that the road to freedom was paved with the blood of kings, and she would have to be the one to lay the first brick. The fear had subsided as her breathing steadied. Amy looked into the scope and saw the head of the man she would soon murder. As far as she was concerned, he was no villain. She let out one final breath before closing her eyes. Amy took the shot.
In the moments after, Amy wasn't sure what had happened. Had she pulled the trigger? Did she have a good man's blood on her hands? It all came clear when the ringing died down. Smoke was slowly creeping up from the barrel. In the streets below, the crowd was as confused as Amy was. Thousands of eyes stared at their once powerful leader, his life spilling forth from his head. Quickly the entire audience began fleeing. Some cried, but most were scared for their own safety. If the most powerful of them could be so easily taken down, what chances did the average citizen have of surviving? The security team was fast on the scene, blocking off all exits and searching for the bullet's origin. Amy eventually rose from her shocked state, looking on at the panic ensuing. Tears filled her eyes as she spilled onto the floor, assuming something reminiscent of the fetal position. Over the radio, Sonic's voice could be heard again. He congratulated Amy on her brave actions, but Amy couldn't hear anything over her own inner voice denouncing her as a murderer. After some time, Amy pulled the radio transmitter to her whimpering lips and let out a faint message to her lover, "Sonic, I killed him. I shot John F. Kennedy, Sonic." She turned off the radio as the footsteps of a dozen men thundered up the stairs. Amy knew her time would soon end. She once thought that in the aftermath, there would a sense of achievement, but there was only guilt and self-hatred. An army of furious men had gathered outside and were ramming the door open. If they were to capture her, unfathomable horrors would befall Amy. They would tear and pry every bit of information they could out of her, and Sonic knew this. Before leaving, Sonic had handed Amy a pistol with only a single bullet. She assumed it was in case she missed the first shot, but the truth became uncomfortably clear. Finally, a tall, beefy security guard managed to kick the door open. As an army of suited men rushed in, Amy held the pistol to her temple. In a final rush, the guards leaped to stop her, but it was too late. Amy pulled the trigger.
