Samus's Super Star Bounty

Chapter 1: The Target

The thrusters were on full blast as Samus neared her client's home planet. She quickly applied the retro boosters once she could feel a gravitational pull. The ship was descending rapidly at first, but upon proper entry of the atmosphere, Samus was able to slow it down to a gradual, controlled fall. With expert precision, Samus landed her ship on the planet's surface, right outside the castle of the one who hired her. After a small wait, a rotund penguin fellow and two small, cuddly soldiers came out to meet the bounty hunter.

"You must be Samus. Name's Dedede. I'm the king 'round here," the notably sleazy royal uttered as he stretched out his hand.

Samus politely shook it, but her eyes were filled with distrust for the plump bird man.

"Now, all I need you to do is to catch this little fella for me and bring him here." He hands her a hand-drawn image of the planet's supposed hero, Kirby. One of the Waddle Dee guards standing beside Dedede was holding a crayon and was clearly proud of his artistic work. Samus gave him a thumbs up and then grabbed the make-shift bounty poster. She gave it a quick glance then went back onto her ship.

Samus cruised around the surface of planet Pop Star, looking for the target. The only real identifying characteristics she had to go off were that he was pink and he was round. Her first instinct was to ask the locals of his whereabouts, but scans of the local areas showed a lack of much developed civilization. She was used to exploring the ruins of the long-dead, but Planet Pop Star was a much-appreciated departure. Instead of the aggressive, hostile wildlife Samus had grown accustomed to, the local flora and fauna were bright, colorful, and all had big, adorable smiles on their faces.

After a few pleasant minutes of searching for the pink puffball, Samus heard a large bang coming from miles above. A giant warship tore its way through the clouds as it plummeted towards the ground. Very noticeably, the ship's left wing had been blown off, leaving behind a trail of pitch-black smoke as the vessel plummeted. However, another trail could also be seen leaving the doomed aircraft. The telescopic scanners on Samus's ship clearly showed that the trail was being emitted by a star-shaped flying object, and riding atop it was the very same guy Samus was contracted to capture.

Without hesitation, Samus flung the ship into hyper speed, though even at its fastest speeds, it was completely outpaced by the star. The only option she had for reaching him was to gun Kirby down. The ship was mounted with fairly light weaponry, but it should be enough to snare the fleeing foe. Samus let out a volley of plasma shots from the blasters along the ship's undercarriage. They darted across the sky at speeds higher than either aircraft, though once they reached Kirby, he, with no difficulty, maneuvered around the projectiles. Samus retaliated with even more gunfire, but everything she flung at him was easily dodged. The only reasonable course of action left was to aim the ship's sniper cannon at Kirby. It packed enough firepower to decimate a small nation, but currently, the cannon was being aimed at some silly, little dude riding atop a miniature celestial body. A devastating beam of pure obliteration spilled forth from the cannon. As it flew towards the skies above Pop Star, the vile discharge produced a most sickening scraping sound as it moved through the molecules in the air. Even hundreds of miles below, the animals roaming the grasslands could feel a certain sense of incoming dread as it flew over them. Within the blink of an eye, the shot was right at Kirby's tail. Upon noticing the harbinger of ultimate destruction right behind him, Kirby simply opened his mouth and began to inhale. Soon, there was no trace of any weapon fire, only a now bloated Kirby and his star. He turned towards Samus's ship, his brow now furrowed in an intense yet strangely cute anger. A wave of pure annihilation spewed from Kirby's mouth, aimed right back at the fool who sent it.

Samus's stomach sank as her ship's strongest weapon was now being shot back at her, but this time even stronger and faster. With a high-intensity weaving maneuver, Samus mostly dodged the attack, though the ship's hull and right thruster were now severely damaged. The ship landed with a semi-controlled crash. Samus herself was able to safely evacuate, but the ship was in no state to take off again. Its self-healing module would take at least a few days to fully fix the damages. In the meantime, Samus would hunt on foot. This was the beginning of Samus's most dangerous bounty, the pink demon of Planet Pop Star.
